3dsMax 10.

No James, it isn't my primary job..
just my "third job" since as said I worked in staff for two race sim
(high tech sim for rally and gp training,
not rf or cmr eh? that are just toys..)
I've been software developer and 2d 3d designer.
but not my real job.

Secret is precision, I'm a perfectionist, as you said:
starting from a sketch made with pencil quoted to 1/2 mm
(go and back from garage to measure our engines)..
not from photoshop, which is good only for texture..
a real pencil draw let you study deeply.
A good project allows to save time instead hundred times testing in 3d.

It might be that it seems (or is?) maniacal:
but a well prepared work makes it fluent.

I'm 50 and whole life on car races, now my son in kart races..
same love I put in drawing racing cars.
So I replied about timing too..
long time, because not my job, and because for next step (exhaust) I'm taking again paper and pencil..

3d are of course little bit heavier than rough models, but apply some solutions to optimize them.
There are some areas that could be improved, and some points I'd like to study, but free time is strict..

That's the story.. hope to have replied to everyone's question.
Now pass to radiator texture.

PS:
e.g. pivots are positioned so you can open cooling flap, turn the water expansion box insert on the cap, and rotate the radiator inclination: so it'll be easier to adjust once combined the engine.

Thankyou..

details are my passion:
for example

cap has a cross emboss on top
and fixing bar has a part for hex wrench on left side

here you see, right?
