General Discussion / Re: Kart Racing Pro beta11

I updated the dedicated server and I seem to be getting regular crashes. I start a new server and a day or so later, the server has crashed. I can upload the crash report if you like when it happens again but just wanted to know if it was a known issue.

Server specs are :

Xeon 3.0Ghz Dual Core
4GB DDR-RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium

Thanks

Jamie

PS.
I have just updated to Windows 8.1 as well so I will see tomorrow if the sim is still working.

Just depends on timing and what timezone you are in. There's usualy a coupl eof people on my server after about 7pm in Australia

Not too bad Cory. Certainly better than some of my efforts

Suggestions and wishlist / Re: BLENDER PLUGIN!!

Can't wait for the plugin. I am keen to try my hand at making content but am not in a position to spend thousands on 3DS MAX.

I should start making my first track I think. Have my local track here which should be a fairly early one since it's pretty small and very flat.

New features and content is great but I think netcode optimisations are key right now. There is plenty of people racing but can only have 8 on the server due to the rather extreme bandwith usage. Some server tools such as grid editing would be great as well but netcode first if possible

Thanks Piboso and keep up the great work

Support / Re: Hosting Races?

The dedicated server discussion is here.  http://forum.kartracing-pro.com/index.php?topic=8.0

If you want to host a game on the computer you are using then you just host a game using the button in the world menu.

Make sure you open/forward the required ports on the router and the computer firewall as this seems to be where most people have issues. The port numbers are covered in the above discussion as well.

You will need to set the numbers allowed in the server according to your upload bandwidth. I have 850-950 kbps upload and I find 8 is fine and 9 at a stretch but there is timing issues.

good luck

I have to agree that it does help in real life as well. I have raced karts on and off for about 10 years (according to budget) and racing sims for about 2 years. While I was never a front runner, the racing consistency and concentration has come back much quicker and also much improved since I started sim racing.

I am about to have another race after a 14 month absence from karting and I have no doubt it would be much harder to get up to speed if I was not racing online.

we have also tried to host our own sessions so that we don't annoy anyone but every time we seem to host on our friends cant join and there is no ping so do you know how we could fix that so this doesn't happen again ?

Open the firewall ports on the computer and router that is serving the game. The ports required have been covered several times in the forum. Good luck and do not try the biff and barge on my servers. I have no issue banning drivers for those actions

Support / Dedicated server banned list

Sorry for asking again as I am sure this has been covered. How can I implacement a banned user list?

I have 5-10 people on my dedicated server each day. Race nights are commonly running 8 karts which is the limit of the crappy bandwidth here in Australia. If I had the bandwidth, I would be hosting 10-12 at each race.

There are a few people in the US who have been practicing on my server with us so there is definitely people there. Get a few people together using these forums and host a race on your computer. I can assist with setting up a dedicated server if you like but the provided instructions in these forums is pretty good.

Good luck

Jamie

The multiplayer in Beta8 will not use less bandwidth.
Netcode optimizations will be added to 1.0 release.

I will be eagerly awaiting v1.0 then. Till then, we will have to run a qualifying system :(

Keep up the good work and bring on v1.0

There will be a netcode change that should remove most of the lag.
But most important there are some performance improvements that should make the overall multiplayer smoother.
I will be more than happy to test the netcode.

We now have 13 entered drivers for our league but my 900kbps upload will only allow 8 connections safely and 10 at a stretch. Sadly the is the best upload I can have where I am unless I look into getting a second ADSL 2+ line and pooling connections (which is sadly not cost effective). Can't wait for the fibre optic to the door to be available here.

Eagerly awaiting the chance to have races with 10-15 racers with good performance. Should have some good video footage too

open the port is usually for the server side. Client side is usually OK but will depend on the firewall setup. Try the realism-racing server to try it out as people are on and off it all day.

BTW. Liam, you haven't signed up to the new F100 series yet :). Passwords this year for race nights

Just a note to say that season 2 of www.realism-racing.com.au is set to get underway starting in Feb 2013. Have  a look at our site and feel free to sign up in the forums if the Australian timezones will work for you. The practice servers are open but the race night servers will be passworded.

We look forward to seeing you on track

PS. The current race dates and times will remain as is but the track list will change. It will be updated on the 23rd Jan.
