Does anyone have a Racing cockpit for driving games?

At the moment i'm just using a standard computer desk with my wheel on it but I want to get more of a realistic feel when driving sims.

Im thinking of building one and wondered if anyone has gone down this route because the racing seat set ups are very expensive.

do you mean something like this http://www.drivingitalia.net/index.html/_/hardware/costruire-una-postazione-di-guida-completa-r16721 ?

i have done it more or less following that link, one seat take from a broken car, some steel tubes, some wood and... some inventiveness(google translator)

I own Obutto cockpit. Bought it more than 6 months ago. I totally recommend having a dedicated cockpit. It's much more immersive and you don't get tired like on at a computer desk and chair.

Building a cockpit is obviously cheaper. But people who have done it say you have to think which route to go, build it or buy it. If you buy, you will have some reselling value, which is good. But if building, you can make one for your own individual needs and measurements you want.

After owning a cockpit, I came to a conclusion that I want to build one soon, now that I have some experience and probably with a real karting seat and proper driving position :)

You will see tons of self made cockpits you can take some ideas from  :P

My idea is get an old kart chassis.  somehow mount the butkicker to the seat.
Make a rig for the wheel hack your pedals and wire them to the karts levers.
Finally get a 3D capable HD projector. 700US cheaper than a comparable monitor.

These are some nice cockpits guys. Evo sounds like you have some serious work but the idea sounds great.

I agree aireisor. Sitting at a computer desk just doesn't feel good. The seating position of a more realistic cockpit would add to the realism of racing sims.

This is the sort of thing i'm probably going to look into building as i also play other race sims but without going into building a replica f1 wheel (too much work/time).

That Ferrari cockpit is really nice, much better than the racebase in the pictures above :P

I would be fun. My desk is so unstable that it shakes when i play.  :-\ Sometimes im afraid it will collapse  ;D Unfortunately I dont have room for a racing cockpit.

Heres my plan

I will make it work!! the mychron though maybe not unless the telemetry can be streamed realtime somehow.
I would project it on a white sheet of paper in front

I had same project in my mind. Keep posting as you progress, will be interesting to see how it develops :)

Wonder if this could do mychron's job http://www.symprojects.com/shop/simscreen-ss-01/

And I think the pedals wouldn't be very hard to replace with real kart pedals with springs  ???

EVO

I have taken apart my steering wheel completely.  it would be easy to cut my pedals in half and just place them there with some tape.  The hard part is the mounting the force feedback motor and connecting a kart wheel without damaging the connection between the motor and the wheel which reqiures a very firmly connected insert

Too bad you're not my neighbor devotid. Or I'd be picking up that cockpit already :)
The shipping costs overseas are just too big.
