Lags that makes you faster

The Iceman Marco

I know it sound weird, but when you're playing online there're some small lags sometimes. A long time ago I found out that the small lags makes you around 0.03-0.04 sec faster. So if you have it 3 times a laps it's 0.1 sec. The lags you get when people join the server are different. That lags doesn't make you faster.

But last week when I was testing my new wheel I had one long lag which looked like someone was joining, but no one did. when crossing the 1st sector I was -0.34. My times weren't the fastest that times, but that gap was too much. When I finished the lap I checked that sector time. I was driving with kc1 at essay. My first sector time was 15.402 while that sector in my fastest lap was 15.555 and that lap was extremely fast. I don't think I'm able to do faster. Maybe around 0.01 faster is possible, but suddenly I was 0.15 sec faster. And normally that's impossible.

I saved the replay and made a video of it. The lag is around 0:02 and took till around 0:05, the moment I steer. You see that lag only for a part in the replay but ingame it took around 3 sec. No one joined at that time, so it was a lag like that small ones. But this made me much faster.

With that small lags I didn't know sure if it was a bug, but now with this long one the difference was so big I'm sure it's a bug. So I decided to post it because maybe it's possible to fix and I don't think anyone else noticed it.  ;)

Curious,
I wonder if it is just a lag in the timing or an actual, 'teleportation,' if you will of the kart. I would think the former to be true, because usually when the game lags a little bit longer than we see in the video, my kart at least just drives straight off the track. I don't know if everyone else has this problem, but I think that it is just the timing trying to compensate or perhaps the timing stopping momentarily, and that's why you get these strange lap times.

The netcode increases or decreases simulation speed when it detects that the client time is not synchronized with the server time.
The detection code sometimes is wrong, especially with low framerate or when loading data.

Eslotes

Same happend to me someone gets in the server and lagged in 3rd sector and i drove 41,360

A smooth race never made a skillful racer.

The problem also occured in Beta6. I noticed it when I studied the sector times in the online stats.
It always seems to happen in sector3. Here a few examples of the top times.
