General Discussion / Dedicated Server Admin Tools
March 15, 2012, 04:23:16 AM
Just wanted to know the availability of some server admin tools like grid edits, adding time penalties, DQ, etc. Is there something in the works along these lines.

Thanks and keep up the great work. Eagerly awaiting Beta 6 to use the dynamic surface tracks :).

Well we are 2 rounds down and we are on to round 3.

The track for this week will be Goldenport. This track is very different to the first 2 and should be some fun and a new challenge. We are still awaiting the arrival of DanJ, Intrepid_69 and the return of StraightXed to give ArrowJmax and MitDawg48 a run for their money. I definitely can't keep keep them honest at this stage.

As per usual, the server will be up from 5.30 AEDT on race night and practice proper will commence at 7.00pm AEDT. The server password will be sent on the morning of the event.

See you on track

Jamie

P.S I have also started designs for a dedicated league website and previews will be available in the next couple of months. Very time poor at the moment :(

Racing / Australia / New Zealand Championship - Round 2
February 22, 2012, 01:00:03 AM
Due to issues with the marbles crashing the game + some tracks having FFB loss at random times, we will be reverting to tracks without dynamic surfaces and are known to work well in regards to FFB. The dynamic surface tracks will resume once Beta 6 is released. Please check the calendar and rules update within the next week.

Round 2 will be postponed by one week and take place on 07-03-2012 due to the fact that someone has been using my bandwidth (@ 500MB+ per night) and I have been capped (64kbps) for this month. The situation has been rectified (and heavily secured) and internet plan upgraded but I am stuck on dial up speed for the rest of the month.

The scheduled track will be Russian Ring and the password will be sent on the morning of the event.

See you all on track

Jamie

Track Editing / Tracks Without Marbles
February 17, 2012, 02:48:54 PM
Just wondering which tracks available do not have the dynamic track system. I am looking at tracks we can use for online racing without encountering the marbles error and crashing to desktop.

I believe Russian Ring is one as it did not have issues in over an hour of running with 3 karts but I'm not 100%

Thanks

After trying to persevere with a linux server, I have decided to go with a windows server for the ease and stability (after the practice debarcle of last week  >:().

Round 1 is upon us on Feb 15 at Kimboloton and the password for this week will  be PM'ed to the entered competitors on the morning of the event. Please note that after this round, the kart skins cannot be changed.

Thanks everyone and I'll see you on track.

Racing Rules

Event Schedule
1. All events start at 7.00pm Sydney Time. GMT+ 10 (or GMT+ 11 in daylight savings time). The hosting server will be online from 5.30pm on the day of the event.
2. Practice sessions are 60 min in length.
3. Qualifying sessions are 10 min in length.
4. Race distance will be set at 80%.

Driving Standards
5. Race starts and roll up laps are to be done in formation with no brake checking or weaving. Races will not be restarted for any reason other than a server failure.
6. Race starts are controlled by the track/server. Please practice a few starts offline so that you know the procedure and please take it easy in turn 1.
Note: Races are never won on lap 1 but plenty are lost on lap 1.
7. Minimum of 2 wheels must remain on the track at all times as designated by the solid white lines bordering the track. Consistent track cutting will result in DQ from the event. If you accidently cut the track to hold or gain a position, the other vehicle must be allowed past. If you cut the track during Qualifying, please slow down enough as to not set your best time.
8. Please give your fellow competitors racing room. If they are on the inside, don't turn in on them. If you are on the inside, do not drive your competitor off the track on the exit. Time penalties may be applied after the event completion.
9. There is no blocking allowed during the races.
10. It is always the responsibility of the passing driver to make the pass cleanly. If you make contact and cause a competitor to go off-track a DQ or time penalty may be applied after the event. Repeat offenders may receive a race ban for 1 event.
11. There is to be no blocking during qualifying for any reason. Remember, Qualifying is to set your fastest lap. Blocking or trying to race someone serves no purpose here.
12. Lairing or hoon behaviour, including but not limited to purposely crashing, doughnuts on the infield, brake checks, etc. , will not be tolerated and may result in a warning via chat window. If the behaviour continues, the perpitrator will be booted from the server and banned.

Series Points
13. Races will have points awarded for pre-final and final races.The points structure is:
1st = 10 points
2nd = 8 points
3rd = 6 points
4th = 5 points
5th = 4 points
6th = 3 points
7th = 2 points
8th = 1 point
Note:- Finals are double points.

Protests & Post Race Review
14. Races will be reviewed once protests are received and penalties may be applied. Penalties may include time penalties, rear of grid penalties, disqualifications, series points penalties and race bans. All decisions and penalties are final.

I have been testing tracks for my upcoming race series and found that I am having major framerate issues in certain areas of these tracks.

Amsterdam Outdoor - getting major framerate issues when coming up to left hander where there is the the tower in the centre of the track. Also having broken distorted background for the tall white tower just after this corner. I'm no expert but it seems to be an issue with the background objects and buildings rather than the track itself.

Amsterdam Indoor - Getting major framerate issue when going across the raised section. It is so bad that the game freezes then you appear in the barrier and cannot get out (and getting out of the barriers is another issue all together)

Hardware used is not the latest and greatest but it isn't terrible either.
- Intel E4400
- 4GB DDR-2 800
- 1GB nVidia GTS-250
- Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit

I have the graphics on 1440x900 and settings turned up to maximum most of the time and these 2 tracks are the biggest issues for me. Turning off the shadows, reflections and 3D grass made no difference.

Thanks

Racing / EOI: Australian/New Zealand Racing Series
December 22, 2011, 06:59:30 AM
I am tired of just doing practice laps so I am thinking of having a race series in 2012 of 10 races running once a month or once a fortnight. Am interested to see if anyone else is keen to join the fun. If the numbers and interest is there I'll put together a calendar of events and start a sign-up thread. If series 1 goes OK, I'll look at running a second series as well as setting up a dedicated league website with forums, etc.

Hardware For Server
- P4 3.0 HT Ghz CPU
- 1.25Ghz DDR RAM
- Cable Internet Connection (Nice and Stable). Only 512Kbps upload but we can see how that pans out. I may be able to upgrade if required

Let me know your thoughts.

I know this would be a programming nightmare but how about a spectator mode for the game servers. They could stream out to anyone wanting to watch a race. Should be good for newcomers and a great marketing tool if nothing else.

Just an idea because I don't think anyone else does this at this stage.
