General Discussion / Re: What will the new version have?

The next version will focus on bug fixes, optimizations and revised physics.
Additional content will be released later.

A wise programmer.

Thanks...

I shut down the ROTW-USA servers because it is too much trouble to get logged in with the current beta version. When the next release comes out, I'll start the servers back up.

But, if some of you guys still wish to put up with the login difficulty and the other bugs, let me know and I'll fire up one of the servers anyway. Just say how you'd like it configured, which kart, air temperature, etc.

I can host it from a Pennsylvania server or a Missouri server. Either one has a very good connection to the internet.

Part of the laggy problem, though, is the shear amount of data that is sent and received for each client connection. There is probably 4 times the amount of data transmitted as compared to what is sent/received in "Live For Speed". No doubt, this isn't helping matters. Hopefully, PiBoSo can trim that down somewhat.

PiBoSo,

That's great that you are focusing on fixing the bugs. Most programmers like to add more features and worry about bugs later. Make it solid and it will be good.

Just so you know, the ROTW-USA servers are running on a Linux server using Wine to run them with. It would be nice if some day there was a dedicated server version that was compiled natively for Linux. But for now, as long as it works the way it is, I'm happy.

One thing you didn't mention is the connecting issue. Almost always, the first time I load up the simulator and try to connect to the server, it will say "Connected" but will just hang there. I can move the mouse and I can click on "Close" to go back. But the connection never completes to take me to the track and its menus.

However, if I back up and completely close the simulator and restart it again, I usually get connected and can race. For some reason it always takes two tries to get in. Remember, as I posted in a previous post, the server is trying to send something to the client machine's "local internal network" address instead of it's public internet address. Of course, it will never get back to the client machine. I discovered this by using "iftop" on the server to monitor the network activity.

The other bug I mentioned in another post about the "best line" yellow arrows displaying when they shouldn't seems to be an issue with the client-side software and not the server software. I can shut down the client side and restart it and the problem goes away. Not sure what the cause is. It's not an overheating issue.

Who knows, maybe when you fixed the "flying kart" problem, it took care of other issues too.

Thanks and keep up the good work...

Bad servers can have low pings too. :)

And good servers can have high pings. It all depends on the route between you and the server and how many connections it makes along the way.

The servers that are up most of the time are in the USA. Europe and other parts of the world need to get some servers going.

But we also need that next version, the one that allows an easier connection to be made and some improved networking.

Bug reports / Re: KC3 has reverse gear!

OK, thanks for the info. That will help when I get caught against a tire. :)

Still, though, It was kinda cool to get it to spin the tires in reverse as in the video.

I haven't been able to figure out how to use the "low speed control". I know the "L" key has something to do with it, but it just seems to cancel out any input from the throttle.

When you watch the video, you'll notice that it was wet grass, so I could spin the tires easily. I can't get the tires to spin on dry grass with the KC3. But after spinning the tires a few times, I let off on the throttle and then the tires spun in reverse. You can see it in the video because it is throwing grass to the front and the kart backs up. It's not just going slowly, it's spinning the tires in reverse. I then drive away without spinning the tires.

Piboso, how does the low speed control work?

Is this a bug or a feature to get you away from being stuck against an object?

A wishlist suggestion is to add a feature to signal a track worker over to push you away from an object.

But, in the meantime, maybe we can get unstuck by ourselves. Watch the short video:

Can the same job be done using Blender rather than 3dsmax?

Not very many people can afford $3500+ USD for 3dsmax.

Did you guys really spend that much money to get 3dsmax?

If 3dsmax was $100, I would get it. But I can't see spending that much money on software. I don't care how good it is.

Bug reports / Re: Connecting to servers
December 17, 2010, 09:19:36 PM
Something I've determined that might be important for helping to debug: Yesterday, I zeroed out the settings for qualify, race, pre-final, etc. The only thing that has a time on it is practice. This is on the servers that begin with "ROTW-USA". The servers are allocated 3 hours of practice time each. By doing this, they have not yet crashed. Prior to this, they were crashing quite regularly. So, we just have fun practicing and race each other informally.

Also, as soon as the 3 hours is over, they almost immediately restart with a new 3 hour practice time.

As for the problem with connecting to the server, that issue is still there. But I find that when I cannot connect, I just exit out of KRP completely and restart the software and I usually connect OK. Hopefully that will help while studying the source code to look for this issue.

I hope the above helps. I wish I could help more.

I always keep an eye on the time and use that few minutes to make a few laps to get my tires warmed up. I always seem to run better after about 3 laps or so. So, I'm guessing the tire temps is fairly accurate on how the tires work in this sim. I can also tell when I've overheated the LR.

That makes sense that it stays green above 40 at other parts of the track. This allows the ones in back to get caught up to the rest of the field. However, the polesitter still needs to keep his speed down so everyone else can keep up. If the polesitter takes off and runs 59 all the way around and then drops to 38 at the last corner, he can have a huge lead right at the start.

The front row should be limited to 40 all the way around while others should be allowed 50 until the last turn.

Bug reports / Re: dedicated server don't restart
December 16, 2010, 02:09:01 PM
Can you make that a setting to put into dedicated.ini?

Some server operators might want to make it not restart until the next day, while others might want it to restart immediately.

Sorry, I misread your post. Ignore what I wrote.

It sounds like you just have a bad download for some reason. Maybe try again.

Just delete the setup file that is corrupt. Or to be safe, delete all of them.

Go to your KRP folder, usually c:\Program Files\Kart Racing Pro

Then go into the "profiles" folder. Then you'll find a folder named with the profile you use. Go into that folder.

Now, go into "setups", then "lonato". Now you will see a folder for each of the different karts. Go into the folder for the kart that is corrupted. You will now see all your setup files. Delete the one that you think is bad. Don't delete the one that says "default".

I'm sure that's a format specifically for KRP. It's most likely just full of positional information for each kart. When replaying, the KRP software would position each kart where they belong at any given time, along with engine sounds, tire marks, and many other details.

It's not a video format.
