Post by: LauZzZn on June 29, 2016, 09:15:02 PM
I will upload several Bobs Track Builder Tutorials here!

#1 about making the first steps (https://youtu.be/tRy8CS8o_4Q)

#2 about making kerbs (https://youtu.be/kSoMdlYNgSg)

3DSimED:

Conversion Tutorial #1 (https://youtu.be/u-N0nipedMQ)

3DSMax:

Conversion Tutorial #2 (https://youtu.be/iWWnNlxJBmg)

Series of a full track tutorial:

3DS Max Track Tutorial #1: Creating the track centerline (https://youtu.be/rfKWkiLaCh4)

3DS Max Track Tutorial #2: Creating the track mesh (https://youtu.be/rTYUODmNbgQ)

3DS Max Track Tutorial #3: Preparing kerbs (https://youtu.be/2MEwKBPXzKI)

3DS Max Track Tutorial #4: Creating kerbs (https://youtu.be/MiLnkg1u5Z8)

3DS Max Track Tutorial #5: Merging kerb and terrain (https://youtu.be/40-Eni3KkGU)

3DS Max Track Tutorial #6: Creating terrain (https://youtu.be/ftRfzEzK-U8)

General workflow:

1. get data:
-Get pictures from google or visit the track, anything you can get is helpful
-make sure you use a proper google earth picture to create the track, take a look at my first BTB tutorial for that

2. make the base track

3. make additional roads

4. make the terrain

5. make the kerbs

6. place walls, fences and stuff

7. place the trees

-> convert to Max

8. place other objects like buildings

9. improve the track and the textures

10. export to Kartracing Pro

Excellent! I already learned many things! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Eagerly waiting for more  :D

Due to some brain fart, in BTB I've used the "Track surface properties" to adjust the width of the track. I need to go through them and somehow try to undo the damage and use the "width of the track" button instead.

Also good that I saw the kerb video now, so I didn't use too much time with the old methods :).

Hello, would there be someone who could help me. I am a beginner with 3DS. I would like to create a karting track with 3DS Max 2021, but even following the tutorials I don't understand everything. Are there specific parameters to adjust? How should we name the centerline in 3DS?

Thank you for your help.

There is no reason to post a literal copy paste of the same question in two separate threads.

Asking generic questions like "are there specific parameters to adjust" makes literally no sense how do you honestly expect some one to help you with something that vague?

No need to specifically name your centerline in 3ds max.
If there is no special naming required, I did not state it in the tutorials. You can also check the nomenclature in the track creation guide from PiBoSo.

Hi,

Just a quick question, in tutorial #3, about making kerbs, what was the point of doing the UVW map? Also why did you make the map a box of 2m*2m*2m? I've been following your tutorials, and find them great so far, but I don't understand what that was for? I'm sorry if the question seems dumb, but I'm relatively new to 3dsmax and barely know what all the functions are for.

Normally I use UVW Map for grass and tarmac. For kerbs I use the UV Unwrap in order to get it aligned.

BTW, I'm Having trouble finding the textures for the track/kerbs etc. Anyone know where I can download these textures for 3DSMax 2021?

3ds Max can accept a wide range of image formats (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2021/ENU/3DSMax-Manage-Scenes/files/GUID-33CBE5B2-DFE9-49FF-9D4F-AA7ABF62138E-htm.html).

Just Google free seamless/tileable textures of tarmac, concrete, grass, etc.

So, you're saying I can use any tileable texture for Kart Racing Pro? Would this mean I can use a bitmap image and attach it to my material and still use it for Kart Racing Pro? Or does it have to be a certain format such as TGA? Currently I am using the bitmap option and attaching it to the base material in the material editor. The bitmap is using a JPG file.

You asked where you could find textures for 3ds Max 2021, hence was my answer.

To make it work in KRP, you can find any tileable texture and amend it with the image editor of your choice to meet the following requirements:

Supported texture formats:
Every texture must have power of 2 (eg: 256, 512, 1024, 2048) dimensions. They can be rectangular (eg: 32x128)

OK, Thanks for the info. Sorry I wasn't clear earlier.

So, if I convert a JPG to BMP does that mean I can use it in KRP? Or does it have to go through another process to become True Colour?

Quick Question, in tutorial 5, how was the initial grassy terrain made? The ones surrounding the track at the beginning.

Quote from: ARI on December 26, 2020, 11:56:26 PMYou cannot see attachments on this board.

Idont know how to place grass around this. in the tutorial he showed how to bridge the grass, but not how to place it around the track.

You create it the same way as you create the kerbs!
Make a line on the edge of your track, then outline it, connect it, create a surface and it is done

Hi LauZzZn
I am trying to watch your tutorials but all the links listed here say the videos are private. I actually already made my first basic track and imported it to KRP successfully. I have some experience with 3dS max so that helped but I would like to learn more or better techniques for making stuff, How could I gain access to your tutorials?
