Title: FP7 Bodywork
Post by: sam19 on July 02, 2014, 12:25:13 AM
now i know laurents has been working on the fp7 and i have to admit the pictures i have seen of it look really good,

but i got bored one day and decided to have a go at making it myself, not because laurents was taking to long or anything like that just because i thought it would be a great modelling exercise.

I would like to stress that this is all my own modelling work and have taken nothing from laurents work, all i have of laurents work is the template.

I would like to thank firstly Corrie (Birel-Rotax 42) he put my models into the game for me, now they are far from perfect but i thought i would share with you what i have been working on with Corrie for the past week or so.

Here it is :

Now again i would just like to say this is all the work of me and corrie from CIK documents, i can even send you the documents if you wish to see them. Laurents fp7 is a very good model and no doubt he will release it soon as he has told me, but whats the world without a little competition.

Please people dont take this the wrong way, all i am doing is trying to progress the game jsut like so many modders on here, im not taking anyhting away from them i am jsut starting to mod myself thats all

Regards

Sam and Corrie

I used UVW Mapping in 3ds max to put the sticker kit on the kart, and it took a lot of time to do it. As soon as the complete bodywork is finished, there will be a template out.

Once the rear bumper and gas tank are finished, a template will be released for this version, along with the pods for the actual KG bodywork. Similarly, there will be a metal bumper released with both editions of the bodywork.

Just a little update,

today i have been working on the OTK sidepods ready for when we release the FP7, we want it so that all 3 karts are able to have the FP7.

Here's another couple of in-game shots. I figured out some shader work, and I'm working on chrome effects for the sidepod bars and rear bumper mounts. In addition to that, there will be a GoPro camera added on where the Freeline mounting bar is located, just to mask the bar and tidy up the look of it. We're also working on doing sidepods that OTK Karts use, putting them on not only the Tony Kart, but also on the CRG chassis, to replicate the ART Grand Prix team.

Alright, guys. Here's a link to the WIP version of the FP7 for the Birel and the CRG, each with respective fuel tanks, bodywork, and bars. Give feedback, please! You can install by dragging the "fl_kg" and "nl_fl" folder into a folder titled "bodyworks"!

What about it is unprecise? Please give details so we can revise the model.

I have noticed that with the file size, upon trying to exit to pits, 9 times out of 10, the game will crash. I spent some time testing this, and it seems to come from the sheer size of the file, as well as the number of polygons on the model. I scaled it down to roughly half of the file size (9kb to 4.5kb) and it has stopped KRP from crashing when you return to pits. With this came some lower-poly models, but I don't believe that much was changed, aside from the smoothness of the model (which was so smooth in the first place, there is hardly a difference). There might be a surprise in the upcoming days with this bodywork/others, so keep your eyes peeled!

You have to put it into the "bodyworks" folder in your directory, if you haven`t got that folder already, you have to make it new.

There isn't a template out, yet, as we are still finishing fine tuning with reflection and specular maps, as well as some model adjustments.

Template progress:

Straight out of 3ds max, so no fancy shading just yet. Front fairing is going to get cleaned up, but I'm going to try to make the front bumper a little more easy to use. Thoughts?
