Title: Want your track? TRACK CREATION TUTORIALS
Post by: Aritz on July 06, 2012, 02:53:58 PM
Want to have your own track? Rather than ask for it, DO IT! Yes, YOU CAN!

There are members who do them and we didn't know ANYTHING about track creation when we start doing them! If we could do many tracks already, you will be able to!

Do you think doing a track is couple of hour of work? NOT AT ALL! Be ready for MONTHS, but you will enjoy it more than driving ;)

Those are the links I've found, feel free to add more that you think important:

I didn't try to create a track yet, but I wonder if a simple trac with default textures and materials (a simple oval) would not be very usefull to help beginers ?
Then i would be possible to modify the oval to follow the contours of the track.

I didn't use 3D editor to models objects since severals years, so may be I'm wrong, but don't you think I could be a usefull tool for beginers ?

Good idea, I'll try to upload one track I made, with all the objects and textures.

Have you read this?

Add Objects to block off alternate layout routes
1.View -> Layout to open the layout editor.
2.Use RCtrl and the arrow keys to navigate the free roam camera
3.Click on an object name in the Layout editor
4.Click the Create button
5.Click in the scene. The object will be placed on the ground below the cursor position
6.Use the z (move horizontal) and c (rotate) keys to position the object
7.Continue to add as many objects as necessary!
8.Save the .lyt file!

Create Layouts

This is optional, if your track has multiple layouts.
1.Create a new folder for your alternate layout inside your track folder (eg. tracks/mytrack/short/)
2.Open your trp file in TrackEd, and either modify your existing centerline or create a new one from scratch.
3.Merge the new centerline , generate a new dynamic surface (& bestline, if you want) and save the file as a new .trp in the alternate layout folder.
4.Modify your trackside cameras to match the new layout, and save the .tsc file in the alternate layout folder.
5.Modify your race data to match the new circuit length and save the .rdf in the alternate layout folder.
6.Use the layout editor to place cones and haybales to block off routes. Save the .lyt in the alternate layout folder.
7.Create a new map.tga image for the new layout
8.Modify your marshals to fit the new layout and save the marshals.cfg file in the alternate layout folder.
9.Copy your .ini file into the alternate layout folder, and modify appropriately

Don't you make those tracks in 3DS max for perfect measurements of the track ? I saw a tutorial on youtube about using google earth to get the exact lay out done.

Follow it  ;)

I do tracks using Bob's Track Builder and then, I convert them to 3Ds. So, I can't help you...

For BtB, use the tutorials here:

You can make it but you have to convert it after that using 3dMax. Most of the work is the BTB part though.

I've got a couple of questions...

How do I get 3ds max?

And what is a good photo editing program that I can get for free?

I have exported track to KRP and done all the work in tracked, but I can't pick up any times. It recognizes  when I pass splits but the time doesn't register, does anyone know what's wrong?

you may have to redo your cetnerline.  Make sure the first segment is straight and the last is a curve.
In your check points splits, grid, left is a negative number and right is positive.

Guys, noob question: how do I import the project from BTB to 3DSMax. Doesn't seem straightforward to me. Thanks a lot.

Hi all, guys!
I do the track, and I start in play KRP. But I have no lap time. As to adjust it (to generate) PITS and S\F line in Track Editor?
Title: Re: Want your track? TRACK CREATION TUTORIALS
Post by: LauZzZn on August 10, 2013, 05:54:45 PM
okay you did the things you did correct but some things are missing. you have to set the start finish line. go with your mouse to the track and look at the numbers at the down right. they say you the point for the sf line. then click on grid, then just the kart button and it generates the grid for more information try the tutorial for corridors. pit is nearly the same as sf line. set the point to start but gor testing just set them anywhere on the track. then fill in the other settings there youll see what they adjust. i hope that helped you

Hello, would there be someone who could help me. I am a beginner with 3DS. I would like to create a karting track with 3DS Max 2021, but even following the tutorials I don't understand everything. Are there specific parameters to adjust? How should we name the centerline in 3DS?

Thank you for your help.
