Title: Glitch that requires a full computer shutdown every time
Post by: Jon Wright on December 22, 2010, 09:55:45 PM
Hi,
Wonder is anyone can help. I'm no computer expert and would like some straightforward advice please.
When I first bought Kart Racing Pro, it ran fine for over 40 mins and then hit a glitch
Since then, every time I launch it, the time to the glitch is getting shorter.
Now down to less than 5 minutes before it hits the glitch.
So - what happens is that the screen goes totally dead like the computer was switched off, then the monitor shows "no signal", the engine sound continues but like its on a short loop, the wheel locks up.
Nothing on the wheel or keyboard responds at all, and I have to push and hold the "off" button to get out of this problem with a full shutdown.

System is:
Core 2 Quad Q8300 at 2.5 GHz
4 GB RAM
Vista 64 bit
NVIDIA Geforce GT220 graphics card
I believe this is comfortably good enough spec for the sim, and it runs other sims with no problem (e.g. LFS)
Anybody else had a similar problem, or got anything I can try.
The sim is excellent when its working, its just not working for me !
Cheers
Jon Wright

Are graphics card drivers up to date?

Are temperatures inside the computer case ok?

Hi PiBoSo,
Thanks for your reply.
The driver is  version 186.14
(8.15.11.8614)
last updated 06.06.09
Is that Ok? I will look for an update.
I think temps are Ok and it never shows a problem running any other program.

Those drivers are old and then an update should hopefully fix the problem.

Hi PiBoSo,
I updated Geforce 220 driver to a driver from Nvidia website
8.17.12.6099 from 16.10.2010.
Unfortunately it is no better and still crashes in the same way.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again.

Is any PC component overclocked?

Hi PiBoSo,
No, I don't believe so.
Not by me anyway.
I found today it does the same crash even if you are just on the setup screen, not even on the track.

Kart Racing Pro may crash, but doesn't have the "power" to lock a PC.
Is memory ok? Is power supply unit powerful enough?

Please try updating motherboard chipset drivers.

Hi,

Check your cpu/motherboard/graphic card temperatures. And also check you're power supply if it's enough power to run your motherboard and video card. I had this trouble because it's too hot inside my case, so now I leave it open. Hope this give you help.

Success !!!!
It was the temps inside the case.
I really should have listened to PiBoSo from the start !
I just couldn't work out why it was only a problem on this program.
Anyway - thanks guys.

Excellent Sim, by the way - now I just need to learn how to drive !

You can always adjust the speed of the fans for your graphics card if it has fans on it.  I'm not on an Nvidia card, I'm on dual ATI's, but usually you can cool the card more by turning the fan speed up on it.  You do this through your graphics software, specifically, you must download NTUNE from Nvidia and install it.  It should then appear in the windows control panel where you can adjust your fan speed.
