KS1 is leading in the polls and obviously they need racing just the same as everything else but I always raced the fixed ratio classes and probably wouldn't do any gearbox stuff until I had become bored with the other three.

Might change my mind if someone adapts Oulton Park for KRP.   ;D

If it is KS1, I would change Magesq Historic to Default layout - more suitable for shifter I think. Also warden law would be a good track I think (although starting lines would have to be changed first).

In beta 5 it's almost impossible because of that crashes. They'll be fixed in beta 6, so I think we've to wait for beta 6. I think in beta 6 we can do a very good league. :)

Perhaps this vote should be regarded as the "Primaries" and that we should now have a head-to-head with KC3 and KS1.

Hello

If the grid will be full before first race, then I can give my place to someone who want´s to race. If the grid is not full I´ll try to race. I do have problems with computer so it might be not possible to me to race. Let´s see how is it going before races.

I think we should do a test- race before we start the championship. Especially to make sure that everyone understands the race starting system. Has this been improved in beta 6?

Exactly. Lets make pre-season race this friday compulsory for all signed drivers. I have never seen race with over 20 drivers and i would like to see if server can even manage that.

Hi guys I just wanted to make a little status update so you know what is going on.

1. Skin-pack: I'm still making a skin-pack, so you can excpect that very soon. If you want to change anything to your skin please do that as soon as possible.  :)

2. The test-race: I'm currently planning dates but as it looks now the test race will be in two weeks on Friday@Lonato. Any additional info will be posted in the general forum for the league.

3. Rules: Everyone must read and understand the rules posted in the rules thread!

4. Calender: I'm thinking of making a longer calender. Tell me what you guys think about that.

That's it. Any additional info will be posted in this thread too.

Lars

Going to be fun. But i have a bad feeling about this. We still have some stability issues and so many drivers at the same time, its going to be crazy. I think that in the future, when the real championship starts, we will probably have to divide drivers in to different classes depending on their driving skills (or location). Lets say 8 drivers in each class. Just an idea. But lets race first and see what happens.  :)
Title: Re: European League archive
Post by: Diddy4957 on April 03, 2012, 11:19:33 PM
the racing problems seem to come in with a room with 6 people in, so 20 is going to be mental. Also at the start with so many people there are going to be problems getting everyone through the start procedure without getting disqualified, we proved this in "wills fun race" when it took 8 of us about 10 attempts to make a start with more than half getting through. Lonato will show any problems with the game though

We can try this but it didn`t work with 24 the problem is that we all are from different countrys. i`m from germany and i know that guys from Belgium and netherland for example have a really good ping and no lags.
Australian guys have a ping of 400+ and that`s not the server this is only because so much distance between Germany and australia.
Larassa,TheIcemanMarco, LucaVT250, Tubefactor, Stark,Nitrox and i could drive on my or a german server there i know that it work. Sambo 72 for example is a guy which have a ping of 420 at my or german servers and will make it laggy and this is the problem. We have to split in regions.

If you have a high ping I think it's best to leave. I'm sorry to the guys who can't race due to this problem.
I hope PiBoSo could fix the joining problem.

Like Stark and Schwoni, I also have a strange feeling with 24 karts racing together.
It's only a test and it's Friday 13th, maybe you have luck and it works.
AFAIK there was no test with more than ten people so far.

Since some weeks I'm hosting 10 - 14 servers for GPBikes. Here are my experiences:
Each driver at the same track increases the CPU load (I7-2600) about 3-4% and the memory about 1%.
With 24 drivers the CPU Load of my system would increase to >75% (in theory). Memory shouldn't be a problem.

The server's bandwidth usage is about 90 Kbit/s per user, receive /send rate is about 2/1. This means 60 Kbit/s download and 30 Kbit/upload per user.
For 24 drivers we need about: 1,5 Mbit download / 750 KBit upload. The ping time may not increase significantly at this load.
I noticed that the ping of some lines increases from <40 ms to >100 ms if there was much load on the line while running a KRP server.

The real problem will be the ping times of the different drivers. If only one driver has a bad ping, the whole server will lag.

i`m not sure but we`ll see 70% race is 14 and 21 laps so 100% is 20 and 30 laps i think. i`m not sure if that work^^
i used 5.5 liter in 17 laps so maybe also 9 liter is too less for 30 laps :D

so we need a pit stop^^

I'm sure it's possible to do 30 laps with 9l fuel. The way you drive is very important for the amount of fuel you use. With kc3 I never used more as 3l fuel for 15 laps. But that was in previous beta's so I don't know if that's different in beta 6 now. I haven't driven with the kc3 yet in beta 6 so I'll test tonight how much fuel I use.

I know that schwoni drives full throttle almost the whole time and that's why he uses much more fuel as other drivers who doesn't drive full throttle the whole time.

I think more drivers should test how much fuel they use and then we have to see if it's possible to do 30 laps.

haha i could do what i want if i wait in last corners with driving 25 like i always do^^ but ok.
I mean that rules in corridor first learn to drive in it correctly and not over lines and they think i can drive 50 in first lap but they also drive with 50 in corridor and get then DSQ ^^
And acclerate after yellow line and not acclerate if the first guys do :)

I think that should be different in the future, because in real you accelerate if the lights are green or the flag falls. Then you all can accelerate at the same time and you shouldn't wait for that yellow line.

But tomorrow we have to do it like it's possible now, so all wait with accelerating for that yellow line and keep between the corridors. Then all will be fine I think. ;)

Title: Re: European League archive
Post by: Schwoni on April 13, 2012, 10:17:03 PM
the problem with the lags is definitly the graphic card. if all 10 drivers are on track i get 25-40 fps. Normally 100, same for stark we both put the graphic settings a bit down and all was fine, no more lag.
That joining problem really look like if u have running a server more than an hour and the whole time are people on it so that it doesn`t restart, it happen. Or while changing track if u join too fast, i think the server is not completly ready then but there are guys on it that`s the reason why later joiners can`t see that "fast" guys and why it crash.
Title: Re: European League archive
Post by: The Iceman Marco on April 13, 2012, 10:26:20 PM
So lower graphic setting would help against all the lags?
Title: Re: European League archive

for me and stark yes from 20 to constand 50 fps i only put the antialias and antistopic from X16 to x8

First of all, big hand for Laraasa and Dibu for putting this thing together...

My experiences:
- Tonight no Problem with getting into the room
- With all drivers on track, noticable frame drop but still driveable, at least for me
- 1st Final start I was thrown out due to speeding although I was barely driving about 25 km/h :o
- 2nd Final I looked over my shoulder on the straigth to see who was behind me and to anticipate for the next corner, then big crash as this turning thing is now to slow and I hit a tyre
- Had a good fight with SteeCZ but it is difficult to pass without touching- a bit of LAG results in a wrong impression of the distance I think
- Overall good fun but I doubt if KRP can handle 24 drivers
- Also big LAG moment if somebody connect, ruined a good qualy lap :(

Thx all for joining and CU next time on the track

Here is the video about what I said. It was very strange. Everytime you see that P in the menu the driver disappeared from the track and came back when the P was gone. So most of the drivers disappeared and came back a few sec later the whole time.

I saw the same behaviour in an other race some days ago.
Title: Re: European League archive
Post by: Nitrox on April 13, 2012, 11:08:52 PM
So my report:

First of all: technical

The server did work quite well for me. I could join without problems, join lag was OK. The driving with 9 drivers was a bit like chewing gum (several slowdowns) but the slowdown was quite smooth, so no biog problem. Some lags though, that made me hit the wall once or twice. So it worked quite well for 9 but I don't think it will work for more than 12 players.

What Is sad is, that I cannot view the full replay. The more time goes by, the less I can see of the beginning of the race. Does it get overwritten? I think this is a no-go because it is important for penalties etc.

Second: the race (with some technical critisism)

Training and qualify were smooth, did work really well! Training with wet surface did lag a bit more for me. Sadly only 9 drivers out of 24.

Pre-Final: The first lap was cool, I was impressed how smooth the start went (except it is really hard to be in different speed corridors with all the other drivers accelerating and braking sometimes randomly).
Then in the second lap: I raced along the straight and came to the first curve right. Laraarsa and another driver had crashed and were standing aside. From my view: Laraarsa first stood still on the right side of the straight and then pulled back and hit me - I had no time to react (and was quite pissed first). My wheel was broken so I had to retire (couldn't do any 180 left anymore).

Then I watched the replay and it was a bit different from laraarsa's onboard view: he seemed to be first in grass and roll back! He really should have hit the break (!) but at least it didn't seem like he pulled back actually.

So what Did you do? The problem here is, I think, that onboard and replay don't match sometimes, I wonder how this is during driving?

Final 1:

This did not go that smooth. I was said to have pushed another driver - from my view he lagged and then was like 90° to my kart - nothing I could have done.
A few laps after that a driver crashed me when I was next to him - kart broken again.

Technical bug: I could not watch the replay, just my last lap was recorded.

Then there was a vote for another final and the admin had a crash, thus disconnected

Final 2: Quite the same as in final 1: too many crashes. I finished, but
I was only one of I think three left!

Questions to the admin: Do the races count? Which one (you werent even there for the second)?
Further, I could now, as the procedure requests, write a PM and accuse several drivers of what they have done or not or could have done so in chat. I chose not to, because does it make sense until we don't even know if we see the same(btw this was posted before when a driver hit another driver, who was 1m apart in replay http://forum.kartracing-pro.com/index.php?topic=1596.msg12505#msg12505)? And because of missing replays I can't even see what happened?
BTW I'm happy to accept my penalty, count +10sec to "retired".  ;)

Conclusio

So what do I suggest for KRP?

- fix bug that you cannot record the whole replay (!!!) (or does it occur only for me?)
- continue improving netcode
- add ability to disable polls (If there is a supervised race, polls make no sense and are disturbing (unless the admin has a kart.exe crash, but well...)
(- when checking netcode and lags, the influence of replays would be interesting. While I understand that an online game will never be 100% lag-free, it would be useful to have at least the "thruth (i.e. matching replays)" in every replay.)

Ok server side replay can be watched, so you can ignore that.

- check dynamic surface. As there is more lag (but still depending on how many drivers are on track) on wet surface, it is probably related to this. (using low graphics makes no difference here for me, PC is strong enough)
- blue flag is displayed far too early (after I first saw it, it took Marco almost 3 laps to get close to me)
- blue flag should disappear after faster driver (first driver) finished race
- (concerning rubber build up, I have the feeling that grip is getting a bit strange after too many laps have been driven. But maybe my tires just got bad...)

The drivers:
- Please make sure to pay attention to other (including overtaking) drivers and drive a bit less aggressive if you cannot defend your position with good chance for success (although ofcourse, I think there still are many lag-related crashs). If you know when to let a faster opponent pass, it is more fun for everyone.
- we have to practice start XD
- make sure you listen to the opponents kart (then you know, if sb is next to you or not). Maybe there is still some fine tuning with sound needed?
- from the replay I see many crashes where the drivers did not guess correctly where the oponnent was, so I think we have to be a bit more careful (me included) in future races and leave the other some space!

The organisation:
- Thank you, laraarsa, for doing this! It was fun (and at least a good test).
- Uploading (if possible) a complete replay so everyone can watch the race and also see the crashes (penalties!) would be great! is this possible so you can choose player etc. in replays?

To sum it up, I think that Beta 6b is now the first Beta ready for racing. However, the nedcode still needs some improvements I think. Until then in my opinion organizing races is great, but maybe it's too early for a league, because I'm sure many will loose their points due to lags etc. This might be a bit unconvenient.

Thank you to all racers!

Edit: I didn't know you can edit replay cache - solved!

u are right the replay u can change in kart.ini there u can add [core] replay = ....
if u use only 300 mb u can record 2 hours normally no problem if u do 900 MB only with big tracks.

Title: Re: European League archive
Post by: dibu on April 14, 2012, 10:24:51 AM
Never tried the limits, but KRP is a 32-bit application so it should be about 2GB.
Kart.exe occupies additional memory with the size of the replay buffer.
Maybe there are other side effects with extreme replay sizes.

IMO for normal events there is not much sense in replay sizes >400MB. Yesterday the whole event was about 113MB.

For me according to race:
- lag in race a suddenly appearing karts
- blue flag so so early appears, driver is behind at least 4 corners
- i thing that karts are over reacting when touched. Even i was passed in corner in slow speed even light touch resulted that have been kicked out of track. Passing without contact is really tough. But it's probably due to the lag
- driver do not see peripheral as in reality and is really hard to know where opponent is when he goes aside with Me. Maybe some small indicator on what side and how heigh he is would help
- last laps during final the grip was really bad. Probably tyres were already poor. But what to do? Do the pit stop? Drive hard tyres? Or we drive just so many laps?

No it's not over (I hope). But I can't dissapoint so many people because of the game not able to handle more than 12 people online.
I hope we'll be able to start as soon as possible  :)

where is the problem? drive for example one week qualify and sort the people in groups, so all can drive, every group is close so the fast guys have fun and the slower guys have fun because they don`t get overlapped in 5 laps race. We have enough good servers.

That is exactly what we do with our LFS league...

We are 150 people and the servers can not handle more than 32, so we do laps and our times will sort the people in groups as Schwoni said. The day of the race, there are 4-7 servers ready and we race sorted by times and only with people with our level; no overlappings, no problems.

With KRP we could do the same but limiting the number of pilots to 10/server. That way, the inscription will not be limited as it is now ;)

This had happen today, on the trainning server. As you can see, a simple, not intended touch, had become on a stupid revenge... This kind of acts have to be punished.

I am very angry but I don't want to give names, I hope that this video will help this league somehow, avoiding further similar issues.

The second one is obviously not allowed! The first one depends if the driver lost control or if he drove you off the track with awareness.

I have not problem with the first touch, he lost the control and hit me, I tried to avoid the impact without luck. No, I was talking about the second action... After that, I asked him why, and he anwser me "you hit me first"... That is unnacceptable, we cannot be Judge Dredd. If you have a problem, save the replay and ask for justice here, to the admins of the league.

Does he look back before the turn?  If he did that means he knew you were there.  And he should have given you space especially after that really bad corner he made. If he is a super noob and had no idea you were there, which it looks like.  you should try to pass them on the striaghts where they should have control.

We were "racing", I saw his mistake and I tried to overtake him. He lost the control and we touched, I waited him to continue the "race" but he went to pits or something. I wasn't angry at all! Then, when I wanted to start a new lap, that what you see...

one guy is allready on the ban list i have had yesterday exactly the same moves. so he`s definitly banned. I have a replay of his moves too. first overtake is ok it was his fail so sure u drive inside and if u both touch then it isn`t a problem that is a contact because a fail so no problem. drife in wrong way to crash another drifer is definitly DSQ and banned so fast as possible.

Let me know his name later maybe he is if not we have 2 on ban list.

i was only there for the practice but the netcode was still causing issues, i had to relog about 4 times as karts kept disappearing and when you spoke on chat no one replied. I think me and you lars were experiencing the same problem with the massive drops in fps for no reason, it normally works but it was weird as we didn't have that higher ping around the 60 mark which is reasonable for a server. This was only with 4 people too so it shouldn't  of been that bad  :-\

Anyways i hope you guys had a good race ;)

Also hope to do some smooth racing, because the last time during the first lap of the Final, the driver in front of me made a spin in the first corner and I hit him so hard that I had to do the entire race with my kart all broken. I almost had to drag it to the finish line  ;D

Not only that but I hit so hard someone who spun, that I had to drag my kart to the end.... it was that or an unfinished race...

it is, but I put the server up early as I won't be home until later tommorow, so in case I was not in-time it is there already
