Title: EOI: Australian/New Zealand Racing Series
Post by: JamieP on December 22, 2011, 06:59:30 AM
I am tired of just doing practice laps so I am thinking of having a race series in 2012 of 10 races running once a month or once a fortnight. Am interested to see if anyone else is keen to join the fun. If the numbers and interest is there I'll put together a calendar of events and start a sign-up thread. If series 1 goes OK, I'll look at running a second series as well as setting up a dedicated league website with forums, etc.

Hardware For Server
- P4 3.0 HT Ghz CPU
- 1.25Ghz DDR RAM
- Cable Internet Connection (Nice and Stable). Only 512Kbps upload but we can see how that pans out. I may be able to upgrade if required

Let me know your thoughts.

Jamie

Nothing finalized as yet but will do some testing tonight and work out a calendar. Give me a few days with it.  I am thinking of at least 1 wet and 1 drying race to make things interesting too.

I'll also get a dedicated server working but will update with specific days/times. Am also thinking of a prize for the season winner along the lines of a t-shirt (basic iron on transfer) or a small trophy.

Let your friends know. It should be fun

Is 1 race per month an OK arrangement for most people. I am thinking the 1st Wednesday of each month to make it simple

I was thinking that a starting time of 7.30 Sydney (GMT +10) time for the start of a 1 hour practice. Qual for 20 min, then about 30 lap race.

Just a starting point at this stage but will have to look at most possibilities this weekend if not early next week.

Will have a calendar with details ready by Friday 15th Jan.....Hopefully. Will also setup the dedicated server and have it up for a practice race but more details at a later date. Would like to get about 10 people at least for a practice event to see if my bandwidth is enough and how the program behaves.

Thanks everyone and I look forward to seeing you on track

I am looking at setting up a server for a racing series this year and need some testers to work out any possible kinks before round 1 in Feb. Am looking at Wednesday the 18th at this stage(around 7pm Sydney time [GMT +11????]) and everyone is welcome.

Server name will be jp_programming.

I'll have a test server up for a few hours today (Sunday) but max ping allowed is 400. Server name is jp_programming Aust

I am seeing how it'll run on Linux 64bit with Wine. If it doesn't play nice, I'll revert to the original windows machine for Wednesday

The inital test went well (even though it was served from my laptop rather than my server) but the dedicated server seemed to work with a few minor bugs on my end (Not the program). Thanks Arrowjmax4 and Mitdawg for helping me test, it was fun.

Sambo and MrShowtime are welcome to join us for another test (linux server this time) on Wednesday night starting from 7PM Sydney time.

Thanks again everyone and I'll see you on track on Wednesday.

Jamie

okies, what class are we going to run? I say KS3 since its Australia and NZ and its like Rotax, and after testing toowomba its probably the best kart for it. We Should try and keep the User Created tracks down a bit, maybe magesq and the new argentinan track coming.
Title: Re: EOI: Australian/New Zealand Racing Series
Post by: JamieP on January 16, 2012, 05:16:44 AM
Definitely going to be KC3 for the series. It's the closest to the classes that we run here so it was  a no brainer. Will possibly look at shifter series at some point down the track.

I have gone through all the available tracks from the Download catalogue and wrote up a list. There's a few which we cannot use because of framerate issues, some have issues with track layout clarity, some have track barrier issues which I wasn't happy with and some have just wierd issues. I am hoping for a little variety in track types and track speeds so there is a few tracks in the list.

On a practice run of Russian Ring, I went off the track, through the gravel and fell off the face of the planet. On the plus side, I got the KC3 to reach 180Kph  ;D.

That's a shame......... There are a few tracks available to replace it but it would have been great to have it in our championship. Maybe we can have it late in the season and ask nicely for it to be fixed up beforehand :)

I was also going to finish off a project I am currently working on then setup a league website to be a sub-domain on my current hosting. If we can get consistent numbers for the first series, I have no problem putting more time into it and making it happen much quicker. I will also look 24-hour dedicated game hosting if the need arises (but that is expensive and getting a little ahead of ourselves for now)
