Title: Please help
Post by: PiBoSo on April 12, 2012, 01:12:18 PM
There is a new dedicated server called: !!!PiBoSo Debug Server - Use me!!!
Please race on it as much as possible to help debugging the netcode.

You could make it a KC3 / Lonato - I bet many would use it because of the race tomorrow!

Yes very good idea, the best way to debug. With many people online the behaviour of connecting to the server and local kart.exe crashes can get quite different from a usage of <8 players.

It is set to KC3.
But there are 3 tracks rotating to test the server in different conditions.

Just crashed  ;)

We were about 7 people I think, everything was fine until the restart of the server

I did two races and I felt less lag when someone enters, is this improved?

During the race, I watched Schwoni and eight dissappearing and appearing randomly for 1-5 seconds. It is the first time for me, I never watched that before.

Bumping is possible now (beta6 allows it)

Rejoined after the first race and saw 4 people in the chat, aber they were not really there. Then I drove some laps, but no time was recorded.
Then I disconnected and now I can not connect again.

All the crashes and bugs seem to be linked to server restarts only.

Looks like the server has crashed.

Not all problems. With more than 6-8 people connected, there are connection problems for new players.
This afternoon we had this problem at Schwoni's server.

Crashed again during restart.

By the way, restart is too fast, you cant see the results :(

(connection timeout)

First I entered correctly but no one anwsered me, I was talking alone  ;D

Then I went out and reconnect. Connection timeout  :(

Tried to reconnect and I saw "Connected", but nothing else...

Ok. Then there are severe problems when connecting to a server with at least 7/8 clients.

Also, between qualify session and race start, the race was never started. There was a long 'WAITING' TIME. It needed a POLL to start the Pre-final Pre-start.

now again with that track change.
Title: Re: Please help
Post by: Nitrox on April 15, 2012, 07:24:03 PM
Yep crashed. I could enter new track but did see only 3 drivers, no one else on track + no timing. When I left, it wasn't in server list anymore... Track change too fast to see results.

BTW did me or NOP finish first? XD

I think i spinned before finish line. That was great finish shame that i didn't save replay.
Title: Re: Please help
Post by: Nitrox on April 15, 2012, 08:04:39 PM
I was on the outside of the curve..
I had no time to save replay :( however, it was a good finish XD

EDIT: BTW Stuttering wasn't that bad this time!

Yes. Crashed again.
Enough data to debug the problem has been collected.
Thanks everyone for helping.
Server closed.

I wish to add one more thing:

In prefinal, a little touch between Schwoni and NOP sent Schwoni to the grass and was disqualified because of the speed limit.

In final, I got stocked on a kerb and someone hitted me, both disqualified with the same message.

the problem was surely the lag, collision was magnified and the game has not "lag detector" for avoid the disqualification  ;D

So, two problems; LAG and the "speed limit" limitation, it doesn't works correctly with these kind of bugs

There seem to be 3 main problems:
1) crash when a server is restarted
2) connection impossible or very long when there already several clients connected
3) performance problems with several karts on track
4) stuttering when there are several karts on track ( this is probably linked to n.3 )

Something else to keep in mind.
The Friday test race and your debug server were both running on quite good lines.

I observed the ping of both lines from an independent third line. Also with 10 clients connected, both ping changes were <5ms.
When I watch other lines, they change ping times in a range of 70 to 200 ms.

If the ping times of the server line changes so massive, the results are even worse.

The wide ping variations are probably due to a "clogged" upload line.
Not much can be done to improve netcode in that situation.
The only solution is to lower bandwidth usage.
