Title: Zanardi
Post by: backwardsbanana on June 07, 2011, 01:20:34 PM
Hey guys ! I know that the Zanardi skin hasn't been requested, but I wanted to do the skin, because the Zanardi was my first kart for 2 years.
It is not just a sticker kit layover. I put quite alot of time into this one ;) Hope you guys enjoy ! Also please say if there is anything I need to change or something, because if noone tells me my mistakes, I can't get better ;)
Here is the preview :

Great work, well done.

I found some things which you should correct, then the paint will be more than awesome.
The main Zanardi sticker at the front ins't wide enough and two SKF logos are missing.
On the side of the front vertical plastic there are the blue-red stripes missing.
Another small mistake is at the point where the main blue-red vertical stripes meet the number plate, at this point the outside red stripes should widen a little.
The Zanardi rims should be light gold, shouldn't they?
Have you thought about making the paint look like stickers which you put on the plastics (front, sidepods), so that you can see the border between sticker and body plastics, because the white of the plastic is slightly different than the white of the stickers. Of course this would only be noticeable in the showroom, but in my opinion such details give the whole paint a very realistic finish.
I marked the mentioned things on a picture, so that they are easier to point out for you.

And somehow the blue on the suit and plastics looks a bit weak, espacially when you compare it to the frame.
Hope my advice helps you at least a little :)
Keep on painting, can't wait to see this on track!

Racehard that kid looks fast.  Racehard is right about the side of the fairing.   HE also wants you to make the sticker on the kart look like as sticker and show the diffrerence in color form the body to the sticker.  Great work

Hehe thanks guys. I may do it fast, but not in good detail, I still have to fix some mistakes that Racehard pointed out. ( Thanks alot for that by the way ! ;) ) Im 17 so I don't have a job yet or anything, but I am very interested in doing something similar to this in the future, although I need alot of practice for that ;) I think I will be able to post the updated Zanardi skin by tomorrow ! ;)

At first I took the sticker kit, resized and fit them so they would be in the right place and then i started doing over all of the stickers. I used the pen tool and the lasso tool to select the stripes what I wanted to redo and then added another coating of paint on it so it wouldn't look low res and stretched. It's kind of a cheap way of doing them but its still better than simply copying the sticker kits on the karts

I just discovered the pen tool in PS shop the other day.  I guess its new.  Great work process.

Thumbs up, I wish more would do it that way, and not the sticker kit low res method.

Hey guys ! I had a bit free time on my hands and I thought I will fix some of the mistakes :)

I managed to make the sticker better under the numberplate, I put the SKF stickers on the front pod, I made the side stickers on the vertical pod, I made the front Zanardi sticker bigger and I tried to change the rims into a gold'ier paint, I couldn't find the exact gold paint, but it's more realistic than the metallic gray ones ;)

I couldn't change the blue, because I would have to do the whole skin again then,
Here is the download link ! ( Also renamed it after the new rule of the skins (( with the year )) )

just for future knowledge the easy way to select evervything that is a certian color in PS is in the menu bar  select> color match pick the color with the eye dropper and then use the slider to broaden the selection

Amazing paint. Thank you very much!

Will you make the stickers on the kart look like stickers, so that there will be a difference visible between sticker and body?

Does Zanardi have a colored floor pan?

Hey guys ! I made a little gray line to the borders of where the stickers should be, this leaves an effect that they are actually stickers glued on the pods :) I tried to change the blues but I still couldn't select all of the blues ( I'm still a noob with the color range tool obviously )
And the Zanardi does not have a designed floor panel, just an aluminium gray one.
Anyways here is the preview picture of the sticker sides and the download link is below the picture :)

Love it, thank you very much!

EDIT:
You painted the neck of the racedriver black, did you want to create a balaclava, or didn't you paint that on purpose?

Awesome helmet paint btw ! And yeah I did the neck blackish on purpouse, because I drive with the balaclava myself and it happens to be black for me so I thaught that I should make that black too. Isn't it bad to drive when the wind is blowing on your bare neck?

Yeah ok, doesn't make a difference, because you barely see the balaclava anyway.

Thank you, but I have to admit a friend of mine painted the helmet for me, I just did the top.
I gave him a picture of the helmet, which I found on the internet so neither I or he take the credits for that awesome design.

i have that mg suit. but not with the graphics. I made it too. check out the stiching thread in the paints section. its  there.  the level 2 is a little big.  and watch where the back of the pants meets the front its a problem spot.
