Documentation / Re: Live Timing
October 09, 2012, 02:04:35 PM
I have some problems.
After connecting to server i get
"MSG 0 SESSION WAITING" (newlines removed)
i send ack and server goes silent (not counting "ALIVE" messages)
after connecting to server i'm getting
"MSG 1 SESSION QUALIFY INPROGRESS WEATHER CLEAR 0.0 0.0 ENTRY 4 NOP. B F100 B F100"
each time after that i send (i think i didn't cock this up) "ACK\n" and "1\n" (ID + '\n').
But server keeps sending same "MSG 1..." even if another client joins session (and this message is constantly repeated).
\
Nevermind my bad.

General Discussion / Re: KRP Promotion for Piboso !!!
October 07, 2012, 10:56:59 AM
Hell, It's about time! For now KRP is only existing simulation concentrated on karts. So it's quite weird that they didn't review it yet (i assume game is still to small for them to notice it).
One problem... in this pool i would choose Assetto Corsa :P . But still it's good idea to get them onboard.

Great idea! Now newcomers can have sort of quick FAQ without need to look all over site.
Maybe we could propose couple things?

I think at the beginning a lot of people are asking for track and paints installation (and i'm guessing a lot of people don't know about tons of community tracks).
I think also not everybody notices game stats page (which results in questions about best lap on specific track).
Also maybe info that laps are registered only online.
There is also sometimes confusion that complete game re installation requires also deleting folder in my documents (maybe not that necessary because game will be soon out of beta).

Media / Re: Did you know this?

Are we talking about sparks? These are proper sparks! (brought to you by collision detection bug)

You can also use irfanview. It will start much faster than gimp.
While we are talking about readme file
"F9      - Skip to next song" - could you please explain piboso?

in the real world you would weight or measure the amount of fuel  being used ..

It's called telemetry and KRP has it! Open telemetry subtract fuel level at the end of lap and at the begging and you have result.

Off-Topic / Re: Gp Bikes
June 03, 2012, 11:01:03 AM
Well i would love to support piboso and buy WRS or GPBikes (as i guess/readed right now this projects have no profit) but... WRS is in direct competition with big boys like rfactor2 and in price bracket of NetKar Pro. And i guess it will share netcode problems with KRP. It's quite hard to justify. I think this games biggest upside it that they are unfinished so a lot more content will be added later.
I tried GPBikes with wheel and it was.. interesting. Game pad would work quite good here. I think i even saw long time ago controller resembling bike steering. It was really cheap looking but it would be a step forward.

Racing / Rain race anyone?
May 20, 2012, 11:33:46 PM
It's quite hard to find race in KRP. But i would say it's almost impossible to find someone willing to race in wet. It maybe because jumping into wet track without practice is difficult or maybe i just didn't look hard enough. I don't want to create anything like league just thread where people willing to race can organize themselves. I think simplest way is posting let say 2 days before race, that someone have time and want to race that day. In race day someone can create server and race (i think i could host 4-5 karts)! That way there is time for training and we should get fields bigger than 1 kart.
Also there is much more variety than in dry conditions:
dry to wet (dry track with rain)- this is a bit tricky because transition is a bit choppy (at least on my PC) but in longer races this would be a blast.
wet to dry (wet track no rain) - again with longer practice or qual session it would nicely change track with dry patches in some corners.
wet (wet track and rain) - even in this conditions with couple karts its possible to create short dry lines around track.
We can also specify wind speed, kart type (i would go with KC1 because it have power to spin wheels) and temperature (again colder more fun).

I also tried to use it but without success.

Every newer windows (7, vista) uses more resources than windows XP. So game will work faster on XP, but if your computer is fast it wont make any difference because drop of couple fps won't be noticeable. On the long run it's better to update because in couple years microsoft will stop supporting windows xp so no more security updates.
It only makes sense to use 64bit system when you have 64bit processor and more than 4GB of RAM (so in your case it's probably better to stick to 32).
And lastly KRP uses OpenGL so no need to worry about directx.

I would say that you already have this option. You can write plugins for KRP that receive driver name his times etc...

Im going to make a button for my airbox on my simulator. next to the holes when i press it the driver in game will hand choke.

How should i make one for tucking maybe a button on the top of the steerring wheel when my helmet hits it the driver tucks

or better yet one on the seat, when it is released it goes into the tuck gesture. located somewhere near my lower spine.
is it possible to set a button to activate only when released, and not when pressed?
I saw your rig and it looks really nice.
I think that making choke gesture system with some LED and some photo detector would be even better than button. You could set it in a way that breaking light path with your hand would enable game choke gesture.
I don't think inverting button state would be to hard, but i guess NC (normally closed) switch isn't very expensive to buy.

Suggestions and wishlist / Re: Free Formation Lap

When driving first couple times it's very hard to check speed limit (usually it ends up with penalty), and it's almost impossible to do this when driving through corridor (you are concentrating on staying between line). I think it would be good idea just to show more data in example something like this <attachment>

I don't know this brand but 580W is more than enough. I just wanted to say that a lot of people builds expensive PC-s with massive video card and cheapest power supply. Supply parameters always will drop after long time. If you are starting with good quality and power reserve (it seems yours is that way) you don't need to worry. But cheapest one can go in smoke and you can consider yourself happy if he won't take motherboard with him.

Well to be precise i can run it on better settings but i want to avoid any slowdowns. Still it seems that there are slight frame rate drops when driving with many karts on track (or maybe this is connected to server slowdown when someone have bad ping).

And piboso i don't know if you are interested but there is youtube weekly show called "This Week Inside Sim Racing" (they get about 10k hits). For next couple weeks they are reviewing unfinished games. And it seems they will mention games like rfactor 2 beta, CARS and (which baffles me completely) KartSim. I don't know how it works but it seems that (maybe) developers contact them so they can mention game in their show.
